WASHINGTON, DC (AUG. 4, 2017) – Border Trade Alliance President Britton Clarke released the following statement regarding a component of legislation by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) that would seek to dramatically improve personnel and infrastructure at the land ports of entry on the US northern and southern borders:
“The Border Trade Alliance applauds Sen. Cornyn for his commitment to ensuring that our international borders with Canada and Mexico have the personnel necessary to process legitimate cross-border trade and travel securely and efficiently. By increasing the number of frontline inspectors, Customs and Border Protection can devote the manpower necessary to interdict those individuals who would seek to do us harm, while facilitating the passage of freight and travelers into the U.S.
“Our ports of entry are a critical element of our country’s economic health. Bottlenecks cost manufacturers and consumers money and they cost jobs, harming the country’s overall economic competitiveness. A commitment to personnel and infrastructure gives our country an immediate return on investment. We look forward to working with Sen. Cornyn in making sure that Congress and the administration get the message.”
